The first RPG I played
The Memory
The first memory of playing an RPG, really RPGs in general, is playing a game with my younger brother in the back of our mother’s station wagon. We were too young to sit in the rear-facing seats. This couldn’t have been my first experience with RPGs, and I am sure our older brother told us stories about his D&D games, I just don’t remember them.
I vividly remember sitting in the back of the station wagon, waiting in a parking lot as our mother ran a quick errand. I remember which one and roughly where in the lot. My younger brother and I sat in the back, a pad of lined paper, a set of four Pilot Precise V5 pens, black, blue, green, and red, and a d6 or two.
I don’t remember anything of the rules, I don’t know if we had firm rules or just vibes based on the stories of D&D we’d heard.
I remember we’d draw part of a dungeon, each line on the paper was a level. We’d fill it with traps and doors. We’d roll dice for reasons that I do not remember.
Reminiscing
Today I’d say we were playing a Free Kriegsspiel Revolution (FKR) game, but at the time we were just playing.
We had an amazing time!
